This year's spring meeting of the DGM/DVM-AG Material Fatigue took place on 5 and 6 March 2020 at Suisse TP in Neuhausen am Rheinfall.

23 representatives of 8 German universities from the industry started their meeting with tours through the companies Russenberger Prüfmaschinen (RUMUL) and Suisse TP. As hosts Mr. Markus Berchtold (RUMUL) and Mr. Günter Bergmann (STP) opened the conference together with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Krupp (DGM) and Prof. Dr. Gerhard Biallas (DVM). Afterwards, the lectures on the subject of material fatigue started. For example on the fatigue behavior of field-active sintered semi-finished products made of recycled aluminum chips or the fatigue behavior in the transition area between HCF and VHCF of additive-manufactured titanium alloys.

With around 80 technical committees, joint committees and working groups, in which more than 2,500 experts meet every year, the DGM (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Materialkunde e.V.) links natural science-oriented materials scientists with engineering-dominated materials technicians as well as theory with practice and research with industry - and all this at the highest international level.

The DVM (German Association for Materials Research and Testing) has been promoting knowledge transfer in the fields of structural integrity, materials research, and materials and component testing since 1896. Experts from industry and research institutes meet in currently twelve multidisciplinary networked working groups and various event formats to discuss the latest research results and define future research goals across sectors.

The aim of the seminar is to provide information on methods for material characterisation and for the clarification of damage cases. The contents are imparted with a high practical relevance due to the long-standing experience of the speakers. The participants can bring along samples or discuss cases of damage.

For persons employed in the field of quality assurance, processing or damage and laboratory analysis and knowledge of the investigation possibilities
with a view to clarifying quality differences or causes of damage.

The seminar imparts the analytical instruments for material and component testing that go beyond the basic methods of materials testing and damage analysis. Numerous case studies from our own laboratory help to classify the described methods in their applicability in daily practice.

Omya (Schweiz AG) and Suisse Technology Partners cooperate closely in the development of surface coatings.

Together with Suisse Technology Partners (STP), the Aluminium Finishing division develops innovative surface coatings based on aluminium materials. The two companies have entered into a close partnership and are working intensively on numerous new applications for the automotive, machinery and construction industries in the new laboratories of Suisse Technology Partners.

Sustainable and customer-specific solutions for state-of-the-art surface design requirements are the focus of development.

Through the cooperation with Rumul, the leading manufacturer of dynamic resonance testing machines in the high frequency range, Suisse TP has gained another competent partner. Through the partnership, new methods of monitoring dynamic fatigue tests are applied. In addition to the already close monitoring of the individual cycles, optical systems are used to monitor the sample load. These optical systems measure the sample load directly and thus provide even more information about the quality and comparability of the individual tests. This makes material-technological statements even more precise and the interpretation of test results more sound.

The close cooperation of a technology leader in the field of dynamic resonance testing up to 1,000 Hz and at temperatures of up to 900°C with an accredited technology service provider drives this innovation forward in order to make this technology available to customers in the automotive, transportation and aviation industries.
