Goodfellow on a roll with Swiss acquisition

One of the UK’s leading suppliers of advanced materials and metals has completed another international acquisition to broaden its technical and testing capabilities and geographic reach.

Goodfellow, which employs 140 people across its HQ in Huntingdon and sites in Europe, Asia and the US, has purchased Switzerland-based Suisse Technology Partners (Suisse TP), a leading operator in material certification, analytical and validation services.

The deal complements the company’s extensive advanced scientific materials portfolio and will help it secure new market share in industrial and pharmaceutical applications.

Simon Kenney, CEO of Goodfellow, commented: “We set out at the start of this year our desire to achieve growth through an increase in organic sales and several key acquisitions – Suisse TP, as it will be known going forward, is the second of those and a strategically important purchase for our business.

“The Swiss-based company is extremely well respected in the global R&D scene and its certified laboratories and expertise in surface technology bridges the gap between material supply and application testing.”

He continued: “As with all our acquisitions, we will be looking to expand and grow the business by adding value to customers and investing in new opportunities.”

Goodfellow, which received an investment from Battery Ventures in 2021, supplies a comprehensive range of metals, alloys, ceramics, polymers, compounds, and composites.

The company has built a strong reputation as a trusted supplier to firms involved in R&D, advanced engineering, space and the scientific sector, with subsidiaries across Europe, North America and China helping it extend its global reach.

From its HQ in Cambridge, the material specialist also provides a range of post processing facilities, including rolling, electroplating, sputtering, heat treatment, disk punching/turning and guillotining/sawing.

Simon went on to add: “We are constantly looking to further add value to our global customer base and this acquisition does exactly that, adding reference materials to our range and additional material testing capability.

“The Suisse TP purchase builds on our deal with Potomac Photonics in the US last year and the recent acquisition of UK-based Bureau of Analysed Samples (BAS), all made with the view of taking the Goodfellow group past the £50m revenue mark by 2027.”

He concluded: “There are other acquisitions in the pipeline, with discussions progressing well across multiple fronts.”

Goodfellow, which was named in the ‘Best Places to Work 2024 list by The Sunday Times, is actively looking to recruit, with positions available in the UK and across its international facilities.
