TITRATION

Titrations are important analytical methods in chemistry to determine the concentration of substances in a solution. It is used in many different industries, from the food industry to pharmaceutical production. Our customers benefit from our accredited, certified and independent services as well as from the fast and precise analysis of their samples. We are proficient in both classical titration and Karl Fischer titration (water determination) to best meet our customers’ requirements. 

What is titration?

Titration is a method of chemical analysis in which a solution with a known concentration (titration solution) is added to a solution with an unknown concentration (titrand) in order to determine the concentration of the titrand. The concentration of the titration solution is known before the titration and can be used to determine the concentration of the titrand. 

Types of titrations

There are different types of titrations that we use depending on the area of application and the purpose of the analysis. Here are some examples: 

This type of titration is used to determine the acid or base content of a solution.

An oxidation or reduction reaction is carried out between the titrant and the titration solution in order to determine the concentration of the titrant.

Here, a complexing reaction is carried out between the titrant and the titration solution in order to determine the concentration of the titrant.

How is the titration carried out?

During titration, the titration solution is slowly added drop by drop to the titrant solution while the concentration of the titrant is determined. The titration is continued until one (or more) equivalence point is reached at which the concentrations of titrant solution and titrant are equal. This point can be determined by various methods, such as a color reaction or by measuring the pH value, etc.
